MMA STRIKING
MMA Striking at Mainland MMA
MMA Striking is one of the newest programs officially added to the Mainland MMA schedule, but the class developed organically long before it was given a permanent place.
During boxing and Muay Thai sessions, we began adjusting the training whenever MMA fighters were in camp or the athletes in the room were suited for more cage-specific work. These sessions quickly proved their value. The program found its own identity, produced strong results and has now earned its place on the weekly schedule.
Muay Thai and Boxing provide two of the strongest striking foundations a mixed martial artist can have—but neither can be transferred into the cage without adjustment.
You do not enter an MMA fight standing exactly like a traditional Muay Thai fighter. The distance is different, the movement is different and every exchange carries the threat of wrestling, takedowns, clinch work and submission attempts. The way you check kicks, select targets, recover your stance and position your weight must account for the larger range of attacks available in mixed martial arts.
The same applies to boxing. Strong defensive boxing, clean footwork and the ability to land accurate shots from long range are extremely valuable inside the cage. However, certain boxing stances, head movements and defensive positions can leave a fighter vulnerable to kicks, knees, clinch entries and takedowns. Those tools must be extended, adapted and used with an understanding of the complete fight.
MMA Striking teaches athletes how to take the most effective elements of Muay Thai and boxing and make them work together fluidly for mixed martial arts.
The class focuses on controlling distance, using straight weapons effectively, circling out properly and remaining a striking threat when an opponent attempts to close the distance. Athletes learn how to recognize the brief moments of vulnerability created during takedown entries, wrestling exchanges and forward pressure—and how to meet an opponent with accurate, fight-ending strikes at exactly the right moment.
We break down how kick selection and targeting change when takedowns and kick catches are involved. We examine how boxing movement must be adjusted when an opponent can attack with knees, kicks or level changes. We also work on maintaining balance through combinations, recovering position and safely entering and exiting exchanges.
The goal is not simply to throw boxing combinations and add kicks. The goal is to create complete MMA strikers who understand distance, positioning, timing and why every adjustment matters.
MMA Striking brings the precision of boxing, the weaponry of Muay Thai and the awareness required for the cage together in one complete system.
